5 Indian Research Centres to Be Set up in Russia

RIA-Novosti - At a meeting between India's Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and indologists and representatives of Russian society in St. Petersburg on Monday, the initiative of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre and the Indian embassy in Russia to set up five Indian research centres in Russia was approved.

The Indian ambassador to Russia and rectors of five Russian higher education establishments, where the centres are to be created (St. Petersburg, Kazan and Far Eastern state universities as well as two Moscow institutes), exchanged memoranda on mutual understanding in setting up those centres.

The centres will engage in teaching history, culture and politics of India, develop special programmes for teaching students and hold scientific and practical conferences.

Interfax - A general decision has been made for India to work together with Russia in the development of a fighter jet of the fifth generation, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Ilya Klebanov, who is also the Minister for Industry, Science and Technology, told the press on Tuesday.

He said the project is to be unveiled in India in the first quarter of next year, while a tender in Russia for the development of the 5th generation fighter jet is not yet over. The developer of the new plane is yet to be determined, Klebanov said, adding that the tender will be wrapped up this year.

Thumbs up

I thought of learning Russian a few months back in Bangalore. No Russian centres are there in the Southern India. It would have helped me a lot if it had been there..
