Hello Saiko,
I never heard of the Alpha. I assumed that the West allowed Russia in space club as a courticy.
They need a spell checker on this board because I can't spell very well.

I feel that there should be positioning rockets rapidly applied to Mir.
Of course Mir is not perfect, but hey' it works!
I am a proponent of exceptionally large designs.
I would use the older parts of Mir as a building ground, for much larger parts of a possably giant station.

There should be drawings on the board, in Russia right now, for a continuing station, that could use the existing Mir station, as a building station, for a very large construction.

They had designed and built a shuttle in Russia, that had flown a re-entry pattern, which was more than acceptable.

I would opt for a space station design, that is rotary in nature, which uses some of the design components from the Ferris Wheel, which was featured in the mileanial celebration, in Paris. This station, is the biggest in the world, about a thousand in diameter.

Then super-guppy your shuttle designs, to ferry very big peices into orbit.

The Illushyn super jet, can carry a streatched sized shuttle, to about a thirty five thousand above MSL level.

With two strap-on cooled liquid boosters, the Shuttle could then achive a meeting orbit to Mir.

Make all component parts of the proposed rotary station, from aluminum, with an alloy within the makeup of the metal.

A weve of semi-kevalr like material, on the outside iof the station, would give some anti metroite protection.

Of course this would be a little on the expensive side, but gravity would be a faeture, to the bigger station and would not require and ememrgency crew, to take care of anyone comeing back from a slower, deeper space busniess venture.

Russian thinks big, to begin with, why should this proposal seem so difficult?

Congradulations to Russia and all Russians!! for putting up the Zevezda (Star) 20 ton living quarters for the Alpha space station.
I don't know if anyone else could put up a 20 ton craft in one shot.
I am glad that we are working together in space and elswhere. I also am very happy about Russia's handling of Chechna. My president acted like a spoiled child on Chechnea but the result was that Russia had to become stronger or face oblivion.

Mir is a symbol of Russian space exploration, just like moon to US. If mir is destroid for the sake of Russian part of the International Space Station, it's like saying that Americans never were on the moon. Maybe mir really should have been the foundation for a bigger pehaps international space station (after all the name realy does mean world)but it is too late for that now, so it should just be there, as an obelisk to the Russian space agency.

hello nationalist,
I read that the Mir will indeed be used to aid the construction of the international space station. The international space station is in the same orbit as mir or at least that is the way I read the news.
