2 stan45:

This is tu-160.

This is B-1b

They look similar because they both are planes. Or maybe we must fly on cannon balls and bricks to not "copy" someone else's design?
It's like saying bugatti
is a copy of Lamborgini

The TU-144 does owed much of its design to the Concorde.
Concords first test flight - 1 of October 1969.
Tu-144's first test flight - 31 of december, 1968.
Maybe concorde is the copy of Tu-144 ?

My contribution.

Su-47 is the first practical aircraft with forward swept wings, as all others had problems at high speeds and high angles of atack as the shape of the wings caused them do disintegrate. Su-47 is revolutionary because due to the correct airodynamic design of the wings, which are made of composites, it is the first plane with such wings to fly at speeds over 400 km/h, let alone at supersonic speeds. Forward swept wings give the aircraft incredible manueverability (Su-47 is the only aircraft that does not have a maximum angle of atack) and 30% more lift.

MiG 1.42 only exists in as couple of prototypes, it will never become a service fighter.

F-22's engines only move at 20 degrees in the vertical plane. Su-30MKI's engines, as an example, move 40 degrees in any direction.

P.S. Before writing of Tu-95, I'd suggest to look at its turbo props really closely.

According to the defense ministry, the development of the new generation fighter will need at least $10 billion but the government only allocated $1.5 billion. All will depend on the foreign help and the arms export.Russia is not USSR today. So,Russia may forces to allow other countries like India to participle in the project.
the only reason they chose sukhoi over the mikoyan is that most of MiG's design burea is old and left over from the cold war. sukhoi ushered in new young designers after the soviet union fell. but it is still unsure about which one will get picked

Just read some of the above posts.

Dogfighting is a thing of the past?

Maybe. We thought taht was true after WWI and we were wrong. We thought taht was true after WWI and we were wrong. Couldn't happen in Vietnam, but it did.

No, dogfighting is NOT a thing of the past until we can come up with a foolproof way of identifying a target as friend or foe from beyond visual range and acting on it.

Except in war, the first nation to start shooting before positive identification will be expelled from civilized society and branded as war criminals when they take out civilian planes.

Dogfighting has a hallowed place in air combat. The human body will not tolerate much much g-force tahn Mach 1 in a dogfight, so plently of excess thrust, a good rate of roll, a good gun, a bubble canopy, great radar, and outstanding maneuverability are all required for survival.

Anyone who says otherwise is NOT a pilot.
