With the completion of the American F-22 Raptor and the Russian SU 47 very close, the air generation is evolving. With France also creating their own 5th Generation fighter, the Euro Fighter 2000 is slowly fading away as a new 5th Generation, in fact the Russian MiG 31 outperformed the Euro Fighter at an air test in Russia and the MiG 31 is only a 4th Generation fighter. Also with the Russian Mikoyan Bureau also completing a 5th Generation fighter titled MFI, MiG 39 or simply proekt 1.44, this is a very exciting time to join te airforces of not only Russia but the US and France. I myself is considering an aviation career as a pilot in the Russian VVS.

Unhappy Russian Aircraft

I am sure that Russian aircraft are very competetive, specialy in the technology area. However no matter how the aircraft is, without good experience pilot, the aircraft is nothing just a show piece. I would dare to say that Russia lost most of their experienced pilots. They were either retired or forced out due the down sizing. I wonder what happen to Viktor Bugachev, one who was doing the Cobra manuevers with SU-27.

I am surprised that 1.44 is alive.
I heard it was stopped because of lack of fundings.
It's good, it's back.

The other side of the story is, that no matter how good the aircraft is built, no matter how much technology it has, it always will fall back on person who will fly it. We have to compare how much training and how many flight hours will pilot log per month, year, etc. Machine is only good based on person who will fly it.

Russia still need to find the money to support the project

S-37 is the only fifth generation fighter that manage to stay alive .I heard the Russia had chosen S-37 and MIG-1.44 will be out.But Sukhoi and the government still need to find enough fund to support the development of the new generation fighter.I am not sure whether S-37 will be as good as F-22.Even USSR time, development of new generation fighter requires huge amount of money and resources. According to the defense ministry, the development of the new generation fighter will need at least $10 billion but the government only allocated $1.5 billion. All will depend on the foreign help and the arms export.Russia is not USSR today. So,Russia may forces to allow other countries like India to participle in the project.

Thumbs up

Lets hope and wait that Brazil makes the deal with Sukhoi for their F/X program.
That would really help the 5th generation development funding.
