Do you agree that Americans are absolutely crap at football. That's football as in the game where you use your feet to control the ball and not the American's queer version of rugby!

Prince:
American football is our national sport. What is your country's national sport? Did you say soccer? Well, there you have it. Try to play our American football if you dare, and you will discover that our sport is anything but sissy or queer. Now then, whose agreement do I solicit to show that your countrymen are crap at American Football?. Do you see my point? P.S. Something just ocurred to me....Who are the World Soccer Champions in the women's side? United States...of course! P.P.S. By the way, what does football has to do with Chechnya? Again, please re-consider learning to read English and UNDERSTANDING IT. [This message has been edited by oca (edited 03 November 2000).] |

I am going to have to agree with oca here. I went the the US as an exchange student and winessed their football first hand as a senior (upper sixth form) in high school. You do not just play it. You have to fight for a spot, and their training is very hard. I have to give whoever sticks with football a pat on the back. It is rigorous. Although... I still do favor Rugby... but I'll take football over soccer anyday

Football, REAL football like the US plays is the only way!! You can keep your soccer. Soccer sucks my ass. At least in football the injuries happen on the field and not in the stands. How interesting can a sport be when the fans drink and riot. Canadian football is the way to go. We make americans look like pansies and u like jackasses
Whaada u say to that? |

Dear Killian:
In regards to your posting on American football as viewed by a Briton -- my opinion is that American football is a somewhat civilized version of war. Think about it: The players wear a military style uniform that includes helmets and padding (Body Armor) like soldiers. The training is - as you have noted - every demanding physically. The coach is the general and his word is law. Players are frequently injured and removed from the field like wounded or dead soldiers. The tactics (the plays) are drilled into the heads of the players so that they react quickly - like soldiers on a battlefield. The game is never called off because of bad weather - just like a military operation. The team is primary and the individual secondary. Finally, the purpose of the game is victory over the other team - and the coach tells his players to "kill them", "crush them", "stomp them" - just like a General Patton telling his 3rd Army troops to "murder those Nazi *******s." I think the game of football speaks volumes about the success of the American military in war. Sincerely, Ronbo |
