I live in Toronto, Canada. Our hockey team is Toronto Maple Leafs! GO LEAFS GO!!!
There are 6 Russian players on LEAFS team, my favorite is Berezin.
As you know, its Playoffs season... we just beat Ottawa in 6 games, and on to New Jersey Devils this Thursday night!

It would be nice to hear more about everyone's favorite NHL team, and how many Russians play there.

Well, Eerina,
I live near Montreal & I'm pretty involved in our team. We've got a russian lineup(Petrov, Zubrus & Zholtok). They are very good!
I really enjoyed Vladimir Malakhov & Igor Ulanov(style & personnalities,on & off the ice.) but they've been taded to the Devils & Oilers.
I was pretty sad about that but I guess they're happier there!
I also like & appreciate a lot Florida Panthers (BURE, Kozlov & our very own canadian boy Whitney).

Unfortunately, the Panthers weren't experienced enough to go further in the playoffs(& so were the Ottawa Senators!) & the Canadians had a terrific season with many miracles & downs.

I think that's it. Oh! I really like Berezin(with Mats & Thomas,he's my favorite).What a cuty... & talented man!

Well, Toronto is doing very well in Playoffs so far, but Devils are worrying me! LEAFS needed more rest after Senators series!
I guess you're sad about Montreal not making Playoffs, well... there is always next year, and there are quite a few Montreal fans here in Toronto! Well, i'm a serious LEAF fan, and will always be one!

The Devils are also bothering me! They are good & they have a great goalie! & so do you. I'm serious, Cujo is magnificient & very talented! He's also very generous!
Who do you think will be in the final battle for the great cup?
I'd say Toronto or Devils or Stars. What do you think?

Well, the way Toronto was playing against the Devils tonight...(5-1 Devils) ....
hehehe Playoffs is way too stressful for me, I feel like at the end of this season I might lose all my hair and have a heart condition
Right now I'm following Detroit and Colorado battle, I have a feeling that Detroit, Dallas, Toronto, and Pittsburgh might have a good chance at the end..well, one of them
We'll see, Toronto is scaring me right now with such stinky play, but my prediction is that we'll beat Devils in 6 games, this seems to be LEAFS' lucky number.

20 years after Miracle on Ice, U.S. pulls another stunner

(Reuters) The United States pulled off a miracle Monday night, shutting out Russia 3-0 in the preliminary round of the World Hockey Championships.

It was the second biggest shutout loss for a Soviet or Russian team in the championships' history.

``In 1960, we beat the Soviet team (in the Winter Games at Lake Placid, Calif.), 20 years later we beat them and 20 years later again we beat them,'' U.S. head coach Lou Vairo said.

This team had the least preparation of the three. Herb Brooks' squad, for instance, was together for months before the 1980 Olympics.

Before this championship started, the Americans had only three practices together. They played just one exhibition, a win over Finland.

``We played hard and we got good bounces, so we won,'' Vairo said.

``We lost mostly because of lack of hunger and spirit,'' said Russian head coach Alexander Yakushev, a former star of the Soviet team that nearly beat Team Canada in the first Summit Series in 1972.

Some disappointed Russian fans pelted the ice with cans, plastic bottles and other items near the end of the game. Two high Russian officials, St. Petersburg vice governor Gennady Tkachkov and Russian Hockey Federation president Alexander Steblin apologized to the U.S. delegation afterward.

Russia, which has not won a medal in the six past championships, put together a powerful roster for the tournament that included this season's NHL goal-scoring leader, Pavel Bure of the Florida Panthers.

But Bure, who scored twice in Russia's 8-1 rout of France in Saturday's opener, was a big disappointment against the Americans.

The Americans took a 3-0 lead early in the third period as Legwand, skating unchecked into the Russian zone, beat Bryzgalov with a wrist shot.

Only 13 NHL players accepted invitations to play for Team USA in these championships. The rest are minor leaguers, collegians and European-based players.
