Sergei Fedorov will not be signing with Detroit, this was made clear on the 3rd of July. Teams interested are Carolina and Los Angeles. The Wings instead have signed Derian Hatcher(sorry Carter..hehehe)and are waiting to see if Hasek will indeed return from retirement(the announcement is scheduled for today).
Colorado signed Paul Kariya and Teemu Selanne for a reported $7 million for both. Kariya took an $8.8 million pay cut and will make $1.2 million. Selanne will make $5.8 million, $700,000 shy from last year. |

Hasek
He has got to be the best goalie (besides a few others) that the NHL has ever seen, IMHO. heehee, I still remember when Hatcher punched out some fool and broke the guy's jaw during a game.
Hopefully nobody took Zubie, he's my man! ![]() ![]() BTW, I read in an espn.com article that ranked Pavel Bure as the #10 "Most Overrated Player" in sports history. If I can find it again, I'll post it. |

Not to start an argument, but here are a couple goalies you might want to look at. ![]() Terry Sawchuck had 103 shutouts in an era when goalies did not look like the Michelin man. "The physical stress that a goaltender was put under in his day was amazing. It seemed that Sawchuk dealt with more pain than any other goaltender in the history of the sport. He suffered broken bones, concussions, arthritis, charley horses and mononucleosis. He had over 400 stitches in his face and head, including three in his right eye. (He didn't wear a mask until 1962." http://www.lcshockey.com/archive/greats/sawchuck.asp ![]() Vladislav Tretiak was the first non-N.H.L. player to have been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. He played in net for the Russians in all 8 games of the 1972 Summit Series and became a legend. Team Canada was loaded with hall of famers and he was only 20 years old. See link Below. He eventually moved to the USA and became the goaltending coach for the Chicago Blackhawks. He taught Martin Brodeur for 8 years, Jose Theodore for eight years and Eddie Belfour for seven years. He also teaches at goaltending schools in Minnesota and Toronto. His family still lives in Moscow and he lives there half the year. http://www.chidlovski.com/personal/1972/content.htm I didn't see Sawchuck play, but I saw Tretiak. I'll reply to the fighting part later. |

not so free agents
According to various published reports, here is just a partial list of players who were available for next to nothing, just to dump their salaries: Jaromir Jagr, Michael Peca, Pavel Bure, Eric Lindros, Curtis Joseph, Peter Bondra, Darryl Sydor, Ziggy Palffy, Keith Tkachuk, Bill Guerin, Olaf Kolzig - oh, and our good friend, John LeClair, of the Flyers.
There are all-stars on that list, and team captains, and Cup-winning veterans. There was a time in the NHL when the discarding of players such as this - the trading of them for nothing other than salary relief, not even for a fake prospect or two - wouldn't have been contemplated. It just wouldn't have been possible. And this: Reports out of Canada that the Rangers are about to waive Lindros for the purpose of releasing him - reports refuted by Rangers coach Glen Sather - meaning that anybody who wants him (and his contract) can pick up Lindros for the price of a waiver claim. That is: $125. from this page:http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/sports/hockey/6215078.htm |
