FC Barcelona’s Muslim players

FC Barcelona, founded in 1899 CE, is world's second richest and one of the most successful clubs in football history in Spain and Europe. It has several Muslim players – The latest being French midfielder Yaya Toure, who was named by Eurosport in 2005 as one of the most promising young players in the world. From the first moment of joining FC Barcelona, he made no secret about his religion, insisting there was no contradiction between being a successful footballer and a devout Muslim

Another Muslim soccer star is Eric Abidal, who is considered one of the best fullbacks in the French league, says his Muslim faith encourages him to spare no efforts to serve his team.

French striker Thierry Henry, who moved to Barcelona from Britain's Arsenal for 16.1 million sterling pound, is a Muslim. Henry, who led the French national team to win the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 - usually encourages people to read more about Islam and the Noble Qur'an to get more acquainted with the faith.

French Lilian Thuram, a declared Muslim, has been playing for the Spanish team since 2006.

Legendry Zinedine Zidane and Franck Ribéry are both Muslims.

Barcelona's main rival Real Madrid, which snatched the 2006 La Liga title, has only one Muslim player, Mammadou Diarra.

The 12-year-old Turkish footballer Yavru Kartal Mohammad (Muha), will be joining FC Barcelona, very soon after turning 13.

Many see sport stars as ambassadors of Islam.
