Just some info as a followup to my earlier comments regarding fighting in Russia...

I discovered that St. Petersburg also has a version of the entertainment listing magazine Ваш Досуг (something I enjoyed last year while in Moscow)... it lists everything from which movies are playing (and where), sports events, various clubs, etc. It's very useful when planning your week.

Anyway, the first place I go to is the Sports section. I found out about Arena club. It's amazing... it's on 2nd Krasnoarmeyskaya, 6. It's a dance club, which hosts fighting events twice a week (Friday and Saturday). It's not a huge place, but there's a regulation sized boxing ring in it...

This week I caught English Boxing (normal classic boxing, don't know why it's called English) and Rukopashny Boi (hand to hand fighting -> different than fighting without rules, by the way).

Next week is a Muay Thai event, which promises to be very bloody, in case anybody's interested. There's a charge to get in during these nights, too, by the way. It's well worth it, though...

Sorry for replying to my own post...

Well, I saw the Muay Thai... not hardly as violent as the stuff in Moscow, but it was entertaining nonetheless.

The staff there is very helpful, which was interesting (not often the case in Russia, unfortunately). The one guy there was telling us how much he loves Canada (I've been to the rodeo in Calgary twice! he said) and he helped us get good seats (tables) a couple times...

Just a bit of info to add to my last message. 2nd Krasnoarmeyskaya is at Technologicisky Institute, just get out the exit and cross Moskovskaya, walking to the left. It'll be probably the second road on your right... just look for Troika on the corner. The fighting club is oddly situated right beside Club 69, for anybody who would know that landmark.

Don't let that scare you away from some cool fights.

Dave
