CSKA Goalkeeper Seriously Injured After Clash of Heads
Reuters - CSKA Moscow goalkeeper Serhiy Perkhun was in a serious but stable condition in a Moscow hospital on Monday after a clash of heads in a Russian premier division match at the weekend. "We're all praying for his recovery," CSKA spokesman Sergei Aksyonov told Reuters on Monday. The Ukraine international suffered serious injuries after he clashed heads with Anji Makhachkala striker Budun Budunov in the second half of the match, which ended 0-0. "He was taken to an emergency ward in a Makhachkala hospital with swelling of the brain," Anji coach Alexander Markarov was quoted as saying by the Sport-Express newspaper on Monday. The newspaper also quoted local doctors as saying that they gave Perkhun only a five percent chance of survival after he lost consciousness on the way to hospital. Aksyonov said that 23-year-old Perkhun was transferred to a special Moscow military hospital on Sunday where the doctors were trying to stabilise his condition. Budunov was treated for concussion but later released. It was a grim weekend for Russian football as Sovietsky Sport newspaper reported that two people died on Saturday in Voronezh during a premier division match between Spartak Moscow and local side Fakel. The tragedy occurred during a halftime show when a motorcyclist crashed at full speed into spectators, killing two and injuring several others. |

Budun Budunov is still in the hospital, but the team spokesman said he will recover for the next round game (16th of September I think) a grim weekend in deed... |

CSKA Goalkeeper Perkhun Dies Following Clash of Heads Reuters - CSKA Moscow goalkeeper Serhiy Perkhun died on Tuesday, 10 days after slumping into a coma following an accidental clash of heads with an opposing player during a Russian premier league match. CSKA press secretary Sergei Aksyonov told Reuters that the Ukraine international died at 5:30 a.m. local time (0130 GMT) in the neurological unit of a Moscow hospital. The 23-year-old leaves a wife and young child. Perkhun's death came just hours after the club said his condition had deteriorated. A scan had revealed that his brain cells had started to die after the flow of blood to his brain had stopped. Perkhun clashed heads with Anji Makhachkala striker Budun Budunov in a premier division match on August 18. He was transferred to a special military hospital in Moscow last Monday, but failed to regain consciousness. Budunov remains in intensive care in a Makhachkala hospital with serious concussion. Initially, he appeared to have suffered the worst of the clash as he was knocked unconscious, while the extent of Perkhun's injuries only became apparent later. |
