Hi everybody!
My name is Vinicius and I'm a 22 years old guy from Brazil. Two year ago I met a nice Russian girl called Elena that came to Brazil like an exchange student and, well... we started a relationship but unfortunately she had to come to Russia last year. She lives in Novgorod and I'm going to Russia to visit her in December/2002 but I'm a bit afraid to travel because I'm a black guy. Actually I'm not completely black because my mom is blonde and my skin is not totally dark like every ordinary black person, but I'm still a black person. I heard a lot of stories about racism in Russia, especially when there's a black guy dating a Russian woman and I wanna know the opinion of the Russians or people who live in Russia about this topic. Is there racism in Russia? Will I be in danger while in Russia? Please, tell me everything you know and want about this subject and please don't hide anything from me. Thank you very much, Vinnie |

I live in Saint-Petersburg. I'm bnot sure about the situation in Novgorod. But I have never heard about hate agains people with black skin. If you were from Asia or from Chechnja - it cpuld be dangeroud for you, especially now. But a Brazilian is not an enemy for anyone, I think.
Of corse there must be some people who hatre evryone of other race, but such racists can be met all over the world. I don't think that you will be in danger. If yoyu need that girl , go to her. Good luck |
