I am thinking of renting a cell phone while in Moscow Dec.12-Jan.6. Need to know:

*how much should I expect to pay?

*where should I go?(pls provide address and metro stop if possible)

*who and where to avoid/scam alert.

Thank you, dears!

Mir,
KMK

hookin' up my girlfriend Kate:

Try:

Universal Cell
800-765-2355
http://www.rentalcell.com

***mention Bestfares.com and receive the first week free. just tell them you are a member, if they need the membership number, let me know, I'll give you mine***

or:

TravelCell
877-235-5746
877-cell-phone
http://www.travelcell.com

***they claim that if you are a bestfares member, you get your phone for free, just pay shipping rates. I am not sure if they cover Russia, but I know Universal cell does***

Have fun!

Man! What's the point in rental? Buy a cheap cell at a flee-market, like Savelovsky Gadget Market and the cheapest package from any cell phone operator.

When you're leaving Russia just give it away to someone, as a gift or whateva. Escape excessive bothing yourself.

Unfortunately she's already in russia, but, well, let my reply be useful to somone else.
if you dunno where you can get a cell pohone or any othet stuff, post another thread. no sweat, i'll read it.

I can confirm the above info. Buy a cheapie used one for $50 and there is a $15 activation fee and then for about $10 you buy the phone cards.

Better yet, ask a friend here ( make them online b4 you leave )if they have an old one you can borrow. My friend made this offer and then I realized that I really didn't want one OR need one at all. I am supposed to be on vacation.

But I have had a cell phone glued to one of my ears for the past 10 years and for a hot second there I truly thought I needed one.

No car. No cell. No headaches

Yes I am already in Russia but still read the forums here If you are at all interested (or bored out of your mind), then you can read my little reports on Personals/25 DAYS IN PURE PONDS.
