Hi Maverick Martin once again!
For scuba diving in Lake Baikal - it depends with whom you dive! If you go with a qualified instructor who is him/herself licensed to take novice divers, then you can go with no certificate at all. Best, though, if you have PADI-1 or an internationally-recognised equivalent. The PADI system of qualifications is the main one recognised in Russia (and in the rest of the world, too). However, you said you are thinking of going in Winter? For ice-diving, you need a very high level of technical proficiency, higher than PADI-1. And the ability to tolerate very cold water :-)) Dr W. |
